Origin

Origin of The Anchor Club and The Connett Bowl.

The Connett Bowl was originally presented to Shinnecock Yacht Club in 1946 by Harold and Louise Connett in memory of Harold Jr. who perished serving as a Navy pilot in World War II.

The Bowl was won in 1946, 1947 and 1948 by Ted Shuttleworth.  Mr. Shuttleworth rededicated the Bowl to SYC as a permanent trophy in 1948.

It has been sailed every year since in SS, Sunfish, JY and Celebrity classes and is now considered the SYC’s most important trophy.  In 2015, the Bowl was won by Albert and Ian Connett.   In 2016, the Bowl was won by George and Bill Carmany.

Below is a screenshot of the original Anchor Club charter document, signed in blood by Harold Connett and the original charter members on February 11, 1942.
